Upgrading the Myvi 1.5 brakes = Discs + Pads

The other day I went to meet my friend that lives at Genting Sempah area and have a little bit of fun driving. After came back from there, I realise that when I brake there is a vibration felt on the steering and as my car going to stop, the brake judder a bit.

Well I could always sent to perodua to skim the brake disc (claim warranty). But it will happen again and again until one time you realize that your time wasted on skimming the disc. Of course, they will change the disc eventually right? and the circle goes on.

Brembo + Bendix MKT = Myvi 1.5 brake upgrade

As for me, I went to the nearest spare parts shop and asked for the aftermarket solutions. Fortunately, myvi has a history of brake problem and most of the shop carry a Brembo OEM rotor. The standard disc rotor for Myvi SE1.5 is similar size with the previous model of Myvi but the only differ is the pads which is slightly longer -I tried and it fits. I also manage to get the latest Bendix MKT brake pads for Myvi 1.5.

There are slight improvement in shorter stopping distance and the braking is a bit smoother.

But then again, it doesn't solve the situation where you need to press the brake pedal deeper when braking as well as the spongy feeling. Which I found that it is quite annoying. Because I did drive cars like Saga BLM and I just love the sensitivity of the brake pedal.

Ultra Racing Bar and Myvi 1.5

I think for the mean time, I'll stick to improving my car handling and safety. Well, I guess that is my principle which is to correct any type of part that I think need improvement. So I decided to get an Ultra Racing Bars installed.

There are so many types of stabilizer bars that are designed for Myvi. I was recommended by my friends to get the Front Strut Bar and Rear Anti-roll Bar 16mm that can give significant improvement compare to other bar. But there was also rumors on imitations that you need to be careful with. So what I did was I browse the UR website and get the authorized dealers name list.

I went to Eneos (one of the authorized dealers) and luckily at that time there was a sale. I get it at 15% discount of normal retail price. I eagerly installed both of the bars and went home without inspecting carefully. Then it started to feel something is wrong..

You see, these bars are made for the old Myvi which mostly can be fitted to the new ones except for the front strut bar. This is due to the slightly bigger engine and the bar constantly will hit the air box. But if you browse the UR catalog, there are front strut bar that are specifically made for Myvi 1.5 variant.  Therefore make sure to get the right ones and if the strut bar is too close with the air box, then it must be the wrong ones.

I went back to get it replaced and noticed that the welding at the bar is beginning to crack. I was given 1 to 1 replacement with the right one. But still need to wait for 1 week for the stock. And of course they said they will call but they didn't. and the list goes on...

See there are marks left behind from the wrong bar installed

Ultra Racing Rear ARB 16mm for myvi

Anyway, everything is OK. But FYI, when I use the wrong front bar, I tried to wrap with insulation tape so that it doesn't knock the air box, but it only last for few days and after that it tear apart.
